Yermek Alimov

Yermek Alimov is a Kazakh entrepreneur and investor in the energy industry who played a key role in the formation and development of the economy of Kazakhstan.

In the period 2016–2017, before moving to the UK, he headed Astanaenergoservice JSC, which at that time was the owner of the capital's energy facility, and included two thermal power plants, electric and heat networks, an energy supply and repair company, as well as a settlement and service centre for servicing the city's population.

From 2009 to 2017, he held the position of a managing partner in the Al Falah Partners private investment fund (Abu Dhabi, UAE), where he oversaw investment in the energy and agriculture sectors in Kazakhstan. The fund had prestigious shareholders, including the well-known company Mubadala from the UAE.

Yermek Alimov also played a major role in the development of Kazakhstan's mining and construction industries. From 2011 to 2016, he headed the supervisory board of Razrez Kuznetsky LLP in Karaganda, which mined up to two million tons of coal per year.

In 2009-2010, he worked as a Deputy Chairman of the Board of Samruk-Kazyna Real Estate Fund JSC (Astana), which, at the time of the financial crisis, managed to complete the construction of about 50 projects for $1 billion.

In 2009, he served as an Advisor to the Chairman of the Board of Samruk-Kazyna National Wealth Fund JSC in Astana, taking part in reforming the energy industry, improving the efficiency of state assets in this industry, as well as in developing urgent practical steps to overcome Kazakhstan's construction industry crisis.

Yermek also worked in the public sector. In 2005-2007, he was the deputy head of the Karaganda region, where he actively participated in regional initiatives to improve the efficiency of the municipal and energy sectors of the region. He helped introduce modern environmental standards for industrial giants and increase entrepreneurial activity in the field of small and medium-sized businesses.

In 2004–2005, he worked as an adviser to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan on energy and public utilities, where he actively promoted tariff policy reform in monopoly sectors of the economy following examples of Great Britain and Eastern Europe.

In the early stages of his career, he was the head of a holding group of companies in the utilities and energy sector in Karaganda (water supply and sanitation).

Alimov graduated from the Kazakh State Law Academy and the Plekhanov Russian Academy of Economics. Currently studying in a two-year master's program at a UK university.

Married, has four sons and two grandchildren, enjoys golf, skiing and football.

Alimov plans to return to Kazakhstan after completing his studies and improving his knowledge and skills in the field of investments and venture capital. With knowledge and experience in the energy sector, he believes in the progressive development of the national economy.
